Holiday Travels

Looks like I haven’t written in a while, and since it’s the holidays I figured I have time now. Traveling is always a nightmare, defiantly less so when traveling during the off season but around Christmas it’s a miracle anyone gets home. My day started with lots of cleaning and packing. Plus taking pictures of my apartment (hiding the messes I didn’t clean up) for a collage my mom wants to make for my grandmother. Then off in the super shuttle to the airport. The group in the shuttle had two clear juxpositions. One woman was getting to the airport 5 hours before her flight, because she is one of those people who is completely panicked about travel. She was a bit edgy, but the second people were edgier. They were arriving to the airport with less than an hour to get through security and arrive for their flight. As it turns out, the lines were short both at the checkin and through security so I bet they made it, but still, during the holidays… leave extra time! While I was standing in line there was a lady behind me who was the most nervous, anxious, incroaching person I’ve ever been near. I was uncomfortable standing ahead of her. She was telling people which kiosks were open, trying to move the line faster, everything seemed confusing to her…it was annoying.

But I’m ready to get going. This vacation feels a little weird for me. On the one hand I defiantly want to go home and see my family, but I also want to get some cleaning done, cooking done, I have art projects lying around, exercising that needs to get done. All in all I want to spend my 2 week vacation with some time to myself getting things done that have been just lying around. Instead I’ll just have the short time between returning to CO and new years to get things squared away and all set for the new year. Plus vacations back to seattle are always stressful. Too many friends and people I haven’t seen. I want to see you all, but of course there isn’t time for that, and time to see my family, and time to knit, and time to just kick back put my feet up and relax. I’ve been working incredibly hard lately. I have 2-3 programs to support, last minute proposals to write, and my own code that I have been working on for months that still needs a ton of attention. So there have been many late nights, a few early mornings, lots of working through lunch and bouncing from meeting to meeting, so in reality I just need a break.

Beyond that, knitting is going well, I’ve even dabbled in painting and that went rather well (it was a specific scene that I wanted, so it involved a canvas, carbon paper and printouts. So not free hand but still artistic and pretty). Matt and I are doing very well. I need to plan a bunch of hikes and snowshoeing trips since I need to get in shape for my trip to Peru in May (and because Round isn’t the right shape) Hopefully I can get everything all together and be in shape for it all, plus I’ll get to see lots of places around Colorado in my adventures.

If I don’t write again, which with spotty internet is very likely. I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and an very easy traveling experience.
